Author's Profile
Zhang Tianyi (1906~1985), a famous modern Chinese writer. The scientific name is Zhang Yuanding, the courtesy name is Handi, the literary name is Yizhi, and the pen names are Zhang Tianjing, Tiechihan, etc. My ancestral home is Shuangquan Village, Dongshan Township, Xiangxiang County, Hunan Province. I was born in Nanjing and completed elementary and junior high school in Hangzhou. I arrived in Beijing in the autumn of 1925 and was admitted to Peking University the following year. He officially began his professional writing career in 1929 and joined the Leftist League in 1931. After the outbreak of the Anti Japanese War, he has been engaged in anti Japanese rescue work and literary activities in Changsha and other places. After liberation, he served as the deputy director of the Central Literature Training Institute, a member of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the secretary of the Secretariat of the China Writers Association, and the editor in chief of People's Literature. Representative works include fairy tales such as "Da Lin and Xiao Lin", "The Secret of the Treasure Gourd", "The Bald King", novels such as "Mr. Warwick" and "Ghost Earth Diary". His fairy tales occupy an important position in the history of children's literature.
