The Sun Shines on the Sanggan River "depicts the land reform struggle in rural North China in 1946. The author originally planned to write three parts in the novel: struggle, division of land, and joining the army. Later, it was written as the first part of it, but this part had a beginning and an end in structure and became an independent book, forming a complete long form. This novel is set in the warm water village by the Sanggan River, vividly reflecting the sharp and complex class struggle in rural areas during the land reform, showcasing the different spiritual states of each class, and allowing readers to see that Chinese farmers have embarked on a bright path under the leadership of the Communist Party.
