In 1802, Ran Aran, who was sentenced to 19 years of hard labor for stealing a piece of bread and attempting to escape from prison multiple times, ended the difficult life of the Toulon labor camp in southern France. On the way to the designated city after his release, the exhausted Ran Arang pushed open the door of the respected local bishop Bian Furu. The kind-hearted bishop took in Jean Valjean for the night, but did not want to be robbed of his silverware and flee. The Bishop's well intentioned lies saved Jean Valjean from being arrested again. Feeling the favor of the bishop, Ran Arang came to the small town of Montreux under the pseudonym Madeline, and from then on, he reformed himself and started anew. Ten years later, with his self-made glass jewelry production factory, Ran Arang became a successful businessman and became the mayor.
Ran Arang's appearance and actions in rescuing civilians caught the attention of Sheriff Javert. Javert was the son of a prison guard and had seen Ran Arran before. There was a disagreement between Ran Aran and Javert regarding the handling of Fantine's issue. The simple and kind Fantine gave birth to her illegitimate daughter Cosette due to being deceived. Now, Fantine's life is at stake, and her only wish is to catch a glimpse of her daughter, Cosette, who is fostered by the owner of the Denard family in Montfermeil County. In the mayor's office, hearing from Javert that a man named Shang Madi was on trial for himself, Ran Arang chose to surrender himself after a fierce ideological struggle.
Ran Arang returned to the small town to visit Fantine again, and was caught by Javert, who revealed his identity as a convict. Fantine died in despair due to illness. Ran Arang was once again imprisoned and became a lifelong slave. Once, he risked his life to save a sailor, took the opportunity to jump into the water and escape, and made people think he was dead. Ran Arran arrived at the Denard Inn, redeemed Cosette with a large sum of money, and rushed to Paris overnight with her. After Cosette entered the Benedictine Monastery under the name of Ran Aran's daughter, Ran Aran changed her name to Foucault and became a gardener at the monastery.
Five years of gardening life have passed. The peaceful life was once again stirred up by the aristocratic youth Marius' admiration for the beautiful Cosette. In 1830, after the Republican youth Marius devoted himself to the fierce people's uprising against the Bourbon dynasty, Ran Aran and Denard, who relied on swindling on the streets of Paris to make a living, met head-on. The conspiracy of Denardi to frame Ran Aran was overheard by Marius. When Javert, who was transferred to Paris, brought people to arrest him, the scoundrel Denardi was arrested and imprisoned, while Ran Aran took advantage of the chaos to escape.
Although Ran Arran moved several times afterwards, with the help of Eponine, who loved Marius deeply, Marius finally found Cosette. Watching a couple in love, Jean Valjean fulfilled the beautiful marriage of two young people. However, when Ran Arran revealed Cosette and his own identity, Marius refused to see him. Although the Marius couple eventually realized their mistake and knelt before Ran Arran's bed to repent, Ran Arran was already on the brink of death. He only let the young couple kiss his hand and walk towards heaven.
