Preface
Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy (1828-1910) was an outstanding representative of critical realism literature in 19th century Russia. Lenin called him a "great artist" and said, "Tolstoy is the mirror of the Russian Revolution
On August 28, 1828, Tolstoy was born into a noble family in Yasnazhi Polyana, Tula Province. In 1844, he was admitted to the Department of Oriental Languages at Kazan University, but dropped out in 1847. He served in the military from 1851 to 1854 and participated in the Crimean War. He was extremely dissatisfied with the Russian serfdom system and explored ways to resolve the conflict between nobles and peasants through his works, advocating for populism. In his later years, his populist ideas clashed with aristocratic life. In 1910, he ran away from home to escape aristocratic life and passed away on the way, at the age of 82.
Tolstoy has many works, with representative works such as "War and Peace", "Anna Karenina", "Resurrection", etc.
Resurrection "is an important representative work of Tolstoy's later period, which extensively and profoundly exposes the anti people nature of the Tsar's laws, courts, prisons, officials, and the entire state machinery through the unjust treatment suffered by Maslova and the" prisoners "in the prison.
Resurrection "portrays the rich artistic images of Maslova and Nekhlyudov, exposing and criticizing capitalism; It is a mirror that reflects the contradictory situation of Russian peasants in the revolution, with strong readability, and is highly recommended to everyone.
