In August 2010, after obtaining a dual contract with Scholastic Publishing in the United States, I began to re read the manuscript of the "Magic School Bus" series. Five years ago, I participated in the editing and publishing work of "Magic School Bus". Today, five years later, upon re examination, I feel that there are indeed many areas that can be repaired. After multiple discussions and communications with the translator, in the spirit of restoring the essence of popular science classics and being responsible to readers, with the joint efforts of the editor and translator, we have completed the editing and publishing of the revised version of "The Magic School Bus".
We have focused on and addressed several issues regarding the re translated version of 'The Magic School Bus':
1、 Firstly, it is confirmed that 'Magic School Bus' is a science picture book, not a simple popular science reading material. Therefore, in terms of the expression of the text, it should be translated according to the requirements of picture books, highlighting emotions, moods, and humor in a concise and clear manner, allowing readers to experience the relaxation and romance behind the rigorous knowledge of this scientific reading material during the reading or narration process;
2、 Re evaluate the knowledge involved and replace some outdated knowledge points, so that today's readers do not suffer from cognitive deficiencies and regrets due to our rote learning;
3、 Verify all the knowledge points and scientific exploration processes presented in the book one by one, striving to be accurate and clear, avoiding rigid narration, and striving for lively and easy to understand;
4、 Accepting readers' feedback on the chaotic graphics in the original version, our art editor has made adjustments in the selection of font size and the coordination between graphics and text. We have put in a lot of effort, made multiple attempts and comparisons, and the final result still needs to be judged by readers;
5、 Due to the bizarre and exaggerated plot of this book, the imaginative imagination and visual expression complement each other, making it a lively and fun book. In order to coordinate the story, visuals, and characters, we have put in effort to refine the language of the characters, trying to restore the humor of their dialogues and vividly showcase their personalities;
6、 Originally, we didn't understand picture books and didn't have a good understanding of them. During the editing process, we lost some images that we thought were irrelevant. After a reevaluation of the composition of picture books, we made revisions in this editing process;
7、 The images used in this introduction are electronic files provided by the foreign party, which greatly improves the quality of the images;
8、 It should also be noted that due to the popularity of "Magic School Bus" among young readers around the world since its publication 25 years ago, the original publisher has released several new books on the basis of the original 10 books. Among the first batch of 11 picture books we released this time, there is a new book called 'The Great Climate Challenge', which is worth looking forward to by readers;
