潜明兹，女，教授，祖籍江西靖安县。1931年11月出生于南昌市，1955年毕业于上海复旦大学中文系，服从国家统一分配进北京师范大学当四年制民间文学专业研究生，未待毕业，主动申请退学工作。曾任文学编辑18年，1980年进北京师范大学中文系任教。曾向本科生与硕士生讲授过民间文学概论、史诗研究、神话学、马克思主义民间文艺学等课程。历任讲师、副教授、教授。退休后继续从事神话学、民间宗教与民间文化的研究。著作有《史诗探幽》、《神话学的历程》、《中国古代神话与传说》、《中国少数民族英雄史诗》、《中国神话学》（初版）、《中国神源》、《民间文化的魅力》等，论文一百多万字。
