《玉屑集》中的文字，是这一年来“玉屑集”专栏文章的汇集。以现代人的眼光来看，“池塘生春草”，似乎意境平常，文词也浅显直白，为什么会成为千古名句？在古代诗人们心目中，这五个字简直是天才的发现和创造，是最奇妙的春天写照。“万古千秋五字新”，新在哪里？很显然，在谢灵运之前，没有人这样描绘形容过春天。《诗经》中这样写春色：“春日迟迟，卉木萋萋，仓庚喈喈，采蘩祁祁”，也写了草木池塘、莺雀啼鸣，那是直接的描写，有声有色，能感觉到漾动的春光。汉乐府中，描写春光的佳句也不少，晋代乐府中，有这样的句子：“阳春二三月，草与水色同”，这和谢灵运的“池塘生春草”，可谓异曲同工。可是，为什么谢灵运的诗句被抬得如此之高？我想，谢灵运这句诗的妙处，大概正是因为以直白朴素的文字，道出了乡村里目不识丁的童叟都能感知的春天景象，而这样的诗句，比很多文人挖空心思比喻描绘更能令人共鸣。我在农村生活多年，可以想象这样的诗意。春暖时，湖泊和池塘因为水草的繁衍，水色变得一片青绿，春愈深，水面愈绿，待到水畔的芦苇、茭白，水面的浮萍、荷叶、水葫芦等植物渐渐繁茂时，冬日波光冷冽的水面，就变成了一片绿意盎然的草地。“池塘生春草”，正是这样的景象。谢灵运这句诗，妙在把水面比喻成了草地，而且妥帖形象之极。这样的景象，虽然年年重复，然而天地间的春色永远新鲜，面对繁衍在水上的一派绿色春光，诗人们很自然便想起谢灵运的“池塘生春草”来。

赵丽宏，1952年出生于上海。1968“插队”，种过田，当过教师。1977年考入华东师范大学中文系。1982年到《萌芽》杂志社工作，曾任编委、诗歌散文组组长。1987年应聘担任上海作家协会专业作家。现为中国作家协会全国委员会委员，上海作家协会副主席，《上海文学》杂志社社长、华东师范大学兼职教授、全国政协委员。著有散文集《生命草》《爱在人间》《寻找玛雅人的足迹》《在岁月的荒滩上》《读书是永远的》《唯美之舞》《日晷之影》《闻乐札记》，诗集《珊瑚》《抒情诗151首》，报告文学集《心画》等六十余种著作。作品曾数十次在海内外获奖，散文集《诗魂》获中国新时期优秀散文集奖，《日晷之影》获首届“冰心散文奖”。
