African rosewood is native to Africa, with a distinct heartwood that is reddish brown purple or reddish brown in color and has dark purple stripes; The sapwood is white or light yellow brown in color, the heartwood surface is beautiful, and it is resistant to corrosion and decay (even white decay does not occur). It dries slowly, but its properties remain stable after drying. Special emphasis: African rosewood is not a yellow pear, but a general rosewood material. Compared to general miscellaneous wood, the material is heavier, submerged, insect resistant, and has beautiful wood grain, making it suitable for making handicrafts.
The growth range of boxwood is relatively wide, and it is widely distributed along the southeast coast, southwest, and Taiwan of China. Its branches and leaves are lush, with no flowers and no fruit, and it remains evergreen all year round. Huangyang wood carving appeared separately as a carving craft, and the earliest physical evidence available is from the Yuan Dynasty. For example, the Huangyang wood carving round sculpture of the character "Li Tieguai" in the Forbidden City in Beijing was created in the second year of the Zhizheng period of the Yuan Dynasty (1342), with a history of more than 600 years. Huangyang wood works have become beloved toys for people, adding a lot of fun.
Due to its slow growth, boxwood has extremely delicate wood and no brown eyes (pores) are visible to the naked eye. However, due to its slow growth, boxwood is difficult to obtain large materials and is often used to match with high-end redwood for inlay or processing into extremely fine carvings. There are no large pieces seen, which is why boxwood carvings are often mistaken for ivory by beginners.
