There should be a certain degree of inheritance in terms of sound quality, and the main shortcomings of the previous generation products must also be improved. The sound quality level should be significantly better than the old products, while the price should be maintained at a similar level, which needs to be matched with the existing R1900T III in the market. This is the development background of R1900T II 06 version. In order to seek more design sparks, the development project of R1900T II 06 version was entrusted to colleagues from Edfa North America, led by Peter Duminy. Peter has 30 years of experience in audio design and has worked in the speaker development department of B.B.C. (British Broadcasting Corporation), Bowers & Wilkins Loudspeakers Ltd (B&W), And Monsoon Audio. He joined the R&D team of Canada's Edfa in 2004. Whether in the high fidelity or multimedia industry, Peter always works at the forefront of research and development.

Fully improved speaker

This speaker uses the same wool basin (diaphragm) as the R1900TII, and presses spiral grooves on the diaphragm, which improves the disadvantage of insufficient stiffness of the wool basin while retaining its warm tone. This design once added wings to the R1900TII and received high praise. Now this design has been inherited and significantly improved in the new speaker, which has adjusted key electrical performance and has better low-frequency resolution and control. Although it looks almost the same as the old product, it has actually undergone a complete transformation.

This high-frequency unit model is 1NT. It looks very familiar, yes, it is the dedicated high-frequency speaker for R1900T III. It is derived from the design result of Edfa's top-notch 2.0 speaker - S2000. Its appearance has made R1900T III perform satisfactorily. Today, it has been fully transplanted to R1900T II 06 version without any changes, still outstanding. This speaker has an advanced magnetic circuit design, using imported silk film for a soft and delicate sound. Among numerous diaphragms, the listening experience of silk diaphragm is the most widely accepted by the public. Among the existing high-end speakers, the vast majority use silk diaphragm, which has the most balanced performance and the best listening endurance for high pitched sound. This is also the reason why the R1900 series has always been fond of silk diaphragm.

Carefully designed frequency divider

The R1900T II 06 version adopts a first-order frequency divider design, and the frequency divider and speaker are mutually optimized and adjusted. This adjustment is not in vain, the result of optimization is a qualitative change. The R1900T II 06 version has a relatively flat frequency response curve, which is not present in the previous generation of products.

The frequency response curve is not the most important performance indicator of the Walkman product, and there are plenty of speakers with attractive curves but not pleasing to the ear. The focus of tuning is actually on the key point of "pleasing to the ear". After adjustments made by engineers from Edfa North America, the R1900T II 06 version has achieved much better sound quality than its predecessor. It retains the warm tone of the old R1900T II and also draws on the excellent balance of the R1900T III. Although it still has many traces of old products, it has been completely refreshed. The R1900T II 06 version also carefully adjusts the sound phase, and when you hear this product, you will feel that the new version has become much more spirited and energetic.

High power amplifier module

The design of power amplifiers still adheres to the concept of "simplicity as beauty", without fancy functions or tempting "concepts".

The R1900T II 06 version amplifier design has undergone significant changes compared to the old R1900T II. The amplifier IC is no longer LM1875, but the higher power TDA2050. This amplifier IC is produced by ST company and is designed for mono, so two TDA2050 are used in the amplifier module. The rated power of this chip is 32W, and ST company positions it as a "HI-FI audio power amplifier", meaning Hi Fi level audio power amplifier chip. This chip has a good reputation and many audiophiles internationally use it to design their own small amplifiers. Due to the use of two TDA2050, the total power is much higher than the previous generation product. The powerful power provides better bass control ability, allowing for more seamless and effortless bass performance. It can also provide a larger undistorted power range. Each type of IC has its own distortion size, which is not constant. Often, as the power increases, the distortion also increases. Under the same power output, high-power ICs can provide a much lower distortion rate than low-power ICs. Switching to high-power ICs can help improve sound quality in any situation, and the effect is very significant.

High power transformer

When the actual output power of the power amplifier chip is N watts, the transformer should be able to provide higher power than N, leaving room for sudden power peaks. The R1900T II 06 version fully considers this situation, and with the large capacity filtering capacitor of 6800X2 microfarad, it can cope with many large-scale music scenes. The use of high-power transformers can effectively improve transient performance, and when you actually hear about the new product, you can't help but marvel at how much change has occurred.

Equal volume design

Active speakers have built-in power amplifiers. Speakers with power amplifiers installed are generally referred to as the main box, while those without amplifiers are referred to as the sub box. In addition to the power amplifier installed in the main box, transformers are also installed, and the volume of these components is not small. Therefore, the actual volume of the main box and the sub box is not the same. Different volumes will affect the bass performance of the two speakers, which means that the bass of the two speakers will be slightly different. The difference will cause channel imbalance and tilt the sound field to one side. The difference in actual internal volume can also lead to differences in the internal acoustic structure of the two speakers, and the middle and high frequency parts cannot escape its harm. R1900T III creatively developed an equal volume design, installing a transformer sized container in the secondary box to achieve a more balanced sound and internal acoustic structure between the two speakers. Nowadays, this design has been transplanted to the R1900T II 06 version, with the only difference being that the container is no longer circular, but square. This is because the transformer used in the R1900T II 06 version has a square shape, which has the advantage of keeping the acoustic structure of the main and auxiliary boxes as consistent as possible.
